Aaron Gebrelul, Adam Green, Timothy Schacherer, Michael Khazzam

Abstract

Complications of shoulder arthroplasty can present significant treatment challenges and complexity especially in the setting of periprosthetic humeral fractures. This paper will provide a review of timing and location of these fractures, classification, imaging modalities to best assess both the implant stability as well as fracture pattern, treatment strategies, and results. The goal in the management of this complication is to restore component stability and maximize shoulder arthroplasty implant survivorship as well as patient functional outcomes.
