Naoshi Fukui, MD, PhD (Arthritic Joint Disease and Sports Medicine)

Dr. Naoshi Fukui graduated Department of Medicine, Tokyo University in 1986. After completing residency and clinical training in Tokyo University Hospital and affiliated hospitals, he became a staff orthopaedic surgeon at Tokyo University Hospital in 1994 where he started basic research in parallel with clinical work. After receiving PhD degree from Tokyo University, he joined Dr. Linda Sandell’s laboratory in Washington University, St. Louis, US in 1999. He came back to Japan in 2002, and became a chief investigator in Clinical Research Center at National Hospital Organization Sagamihara Hospital. In 2011, he became a faculty member of Tokyo University, and continued research on joint diseases and sports-related injuries and disabilities.

Dr. Fukui serves on several societies: Osteoarthritis Research Society International, Orthopaedic Research Society, Japanese Orthopaedic Association, Japanese Cartilage Metabolism Society, Japanese Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, Japanese Society of Clinical Sports Medicine. He also serves on Journal of Orthopaedic Science as an Editorial Board member.
