Avudaiappan Maran, PhD (Orthopedics and Biomedical Engineering)

Dr. Avudaiappan (Avudai) Maran is an Associate Professor of Orthopedics and Biomedical Engineering in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, Rochester, MN.  He received his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from Madurai Kamaraj University, India, and completed his Postdoctoral fellowship in Tumor Virology at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in NY. Dr. Maran serves as Assistant Director of Tissue Engineering and Sarcoma Biology Laboratory and co-Director of Biomaterials and Histomorphometry Core Laboratory.

Dr. Maran has several years of experience in bone biology, tissue engineering and musculoskeletal tumors. Dr. Maran’s work has attracted grant supports from National Institute of Health, Industries and foundations. He serves on editorial boards of journals and grant review panels.  Dr. Maran’s current work focuses on molecular mechanism of osteosarcoma, discovery of biomarkers, controlled delivery of anti-tumor drugs and growth factors in normal and bone cancer cells.
