Editor’s Preface to Osteosarcoma Edition

On behalf of myself and my co-Editor Dr. Fourman, it is with great enthusiasm that we present this series of AOJ devoted to osteosarcoma, the most common primary malignancy of bone. This has been a truly international effort, underscoring the multidisciplinary and collaborative nature of orthopaedic oncology.

In this series, you will find excellent articles on “tricks of the trade” for compressive osteosynthesis, and the difficult problem of megaprosthesis infection. You will read an astonishing case study of extraskeletal osteosarcoma of the hand. Two articles deal with metastatic osteosarcoma-a topic to which I continue to devote my life’s work. Finally, you will read about the exciting potential of comparative oncology, and how the studies of canine and human osteosarcoma might advance each other. We are deeply indebted to our distinguished authors for their generosity and continued contributions to patients with osteosarcoma.

We hope that you enjoy this series on osteosarcoma, and that you recognize the authors’ passion and commitment in these pages.
